Fight for Your Rights

When you’ve been charged with a violent crime in Orange County and the surrounding counties

Charges relating to violent crimes shouldn’t be taken lightly. If you’re facing charges of this nature in the state of California, the Law Offices Of Lisa A. Kopelman can help. We know that being convicted of a violent crime could have an impact on the rest of your life. Rely on our attorney’s 30+ years of legal practice experience to prepare you for your case involving:

  • Murder
  • Robbery
  • Carjacking
  • Rape (or other sexual offenses)
  • Gun crimes
  • Manslaughter
  • Arson
  • Assault
  • Kidnapping

Violent crimes include robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, most crimes with a firearm, most crimes causing great bodily injury, most gang offenses attempted murder, murder, manslaughter and most sex offenses. Violent crimes carry our most serious consequences, including state prison and use as a strike prior if charged with a new strike offense on a later date and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Because of the serious nature of these offenses, often police feel pressure to solve these crimes and do not do a complete investigation. As a result, innocent people can be charged or the prosecution may overcharge the case. These crimes require an attorney with significant skill and experience. Lisa A. Kopelman has handled hundreds of violent felonies and gone to jury trial on many of those.

Gang Offenses:

When a gang enhancement is added to an offense the penalty can be increased by an additional 1 year all the way to 25 to life.
One troubling aspect of these offenses is that you don’t have to be a gang member and you don’t have to be the main perpetrator of the crime for the enhancements to apply. You simply have to have committed a felony for the benefit of a gang. To defend these cases your attorney must investigate every aspect of the crime charged. While being a gang member is not a necessary element, it is helpful to be able to show that you have little if any connection with a gang. Often police officers will testify that someone is a gang member simply because they grew up in a gang neighborhood or have family members who are gang members. As a result, a thorough and complete life history investigation must be conducted as well as an investigation of the charged crimes.
